SMC Men's Basketball Head Coach Joshua Thomas announced that Michael Fry, a 6'9" Power Forward , signed a basketball scholarship at Hope International University. Fry played at Santa Monica College from 2016-2018. In his freshman season at Santa Monica, he averaged 3.7 points, and 5.5 rebounds per game. His best game of his freshman season came against El Camino Compton College when he had 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 blocks.
In his sophomore year in 2017-2018, Fry was named Western State South Conference Honorable Mention after a very productive season. In league play, Fry averaged 14.6 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, and shot 56.1% from the field. He also shot 80.6% from the free-throw line in 8 games. For the 2017-2018 season, Fry started 19 of 24 games, averaging 11.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game.
Fry's best game of the 2017-2018 season was the season finale against LA Pierce College where he scored 25 points and had 17 rebounds.
Fry joins the Royals (Hope International University) after they finished 25-6 overall and 11-3 in GSAC Conference play last season. Hope International University was ranked #11 overall in NAIA DI nationally this past season.
"Mike had a tremendous season for the Corsairs this past season," SMC Men's Basketball Head Coach Joshua Thomas explained. "Mike demonstrated a level consistency throughout the season and he improved his play as the season progressed. Mike has a lot of talent and potential and I'm excited to see his athletic career continue at Hope International University. The coaching staff showed great interest in him and I feel he can contribute right away."
Fry holds career highs in points (26), rebounds (17), blocks (7), assists (3), and steals (3).
