Head Coach Richard Goldenson on the victory, "Abby and Mayra and a tough loss to the Orange Coast team in the SoCal Regional Final but rather than give up, they really dedicated themselves to making improvements to reverse the outcome of the SoCal Final. I am really proud at their perseverance and commitment to one another and the entire team."
This was Santa Monica College's 5th appearance in the Ojai Doubles final since 2010. In addition to the 2017 Doubles title, SMC won doubles titles in 2010, 2011, 2015 and were finalists in 2013. "SMC's performance in The Ojai and state championships this past decade has been very impressive," said Coach Goldenson.
This is the 4th time in the history of the tournament that Santa Monica College has won the Ojai Team title. SMC also won team titles in 1985, 2011 and 2015.
Coach Goldenson said, "SMC pride is strong and alive up in Ojai. Players from this team can come back to Libbey Park for years to come and see Santa Monica on the board of champions and remember a time when they competed fiercely with grace and poise for themselves, their teammates and their school. I could not be more proud of this team."
