A great day to race at San Diego's flat course at NTC Park, the Corsairs' Women's Cross Country two entries, Lisa Servin and Victoria Tapia, both had solid races, essentially repeating their times from their prior race on the flat Moorpark course. Lisa Servin with a final time of 19:55, and Victoria Tapia coming in at 21:52 for the 5k. Both shy off their season best. Lisa Servin, however, continues to advance in the field and continues to prepare herself for the State Championships, which is two weeks away and will be held in Fresno, CA.
With the Men's Corsairs' team, two of its top five runners were unable to race at the Southern California Regional Championships, raced a tough battle and had pride to run for. Jairo Zamora, a tough competitor with the fastest mile start he has ever had, set himself up perfectly at the end of the race to qualify individually for the State Championship. Wenbo Zhao slowed significantly from his prior performance at Conference Finals, but he still ran fast enough to be SMC's second scorer. Jinho Hong was right on Wenbo's heels through the first mile and held on for the third spot on the team.
The Corsairs keep up the great work and look forward to the next few days to help their fellow teammates prepare for the State Championship race.
