Santa Monica, CA — November 2025 — The Santa Monica College (SMC) Women’s Volleyball team is continuing to make an impact both on and off the court, volunteering with Westside Food Bank to fight hunger and connect with the local community.

The Corsairs joined more than 600 participants at the 35th Annual Westside Food Bank Hunger Walk, which broke attendance and fundraising records this year — providing enough funds to distribute over 600,000 nutritious meals to children, adults, and seniors in need across West Los Angeles.

From Food Boxes to Family Fun

Earlier this fall, the SMC Volleyball team volunteered at the Food Bank’s main warehouse, assembling 10 pallets of food boxes for local families. Their dedication didn’t stop there.

When invited back to participate in the Hunger Walk event at Santa Monica College’s Airport Park, the team eagerly returned — this time to bring the joy of sport to the day’s festivities. Setting up grass volleyball nets, the Corsairs led mini-clinics for kids and families, introducing the fundamentals of volleyball in a fun, inclusive setting.

“Our players loved being part of something bigger than themselves,” said Coach Christian. “We got to serve in two ways — helping families in need and sharing the game we love with the community.”

The 2025 Hunger Walk marked a milestone for the Westside Food Bank, whose mission is to end hunger in our local communities by distributing nutritious food to nearly 70 nonprofit partners throughout Western Los Angeles County.

“[SMC's] team’s presence helped to elevate the event and invigorate the crowd, which truly enhanced our Family Fun Zone,” a Food Bank representative shared in a follow-up letter to the program. “This success wouldn’t have been possible without your support.”

The event also included support from the team’s beach volleyball sponsor, Electrolit, who provided sports beverages for participants throughout the day — underscoring the collaborative spirit between athletics and community initiatives.

The Corsairs’ volunteer work reflects SMC Athletics’ broader commitment to leadership, character, and service. As the team celebrated a conference championship this season, they’ve shown that their winning culture extends beyond competition.

“This experience reminds our athletes that service is part of who we are,” said Coach Christian. “It builds gratitude, teamwork, and a sense of purpose — the same values we carry into every match.”
