Robert A. Williams, M.S. serves as an Adjunct Athletics Counselor at Santa Monica College, where he helps student-athletes navigate the academic, personal, and competitive demands of college life. Having once walked many of the same paths as his students, Robert brings both professional expertise and lived experience to his counseling practice.
A lifelong Santa Monica resident with deep ties to the community, Robert attended Santa Monica College before continuing his educational journey at UCLA. As a swimmer and water polo goalkeeper, he developed an appreciation for the discipline, resilience, and balance required to succeed in athletics and in life. Those experiences continue to shape his approach to supporting student-athletes today.
Beyond campus, Robert has remained deeply connected to sport and the Southern California coastline. An avid bodysurfer and lifelong ocean enthusiast, he was the overall champion of the 15th Annual Los Angeles Triathlon, reflecting a personal commitment to health, perseverance, and continuous growth. Athletics have always been a part of his life; his father played professional football, instilling in him an early appreciation for teamwork, preparation, and the lifelong lessons that sports can teach.
Professionally, Robert also serves as an Equity Counselor at El Camino College, where he works to remove barriers to student success and create opportunities for historically underserved students to thrive. He is also the Vice President and a founding leader of the Men of Color Action Network (MOCAN), a statewide nonprofit dedicated to improving educational outcomes and leadership opportunities for men of color across California's community colleges.
Whether he is working with a first-year student-athlete, mentoring emerging leaders, or cheering on Newcastle United from thousands of miles away, Robert believes that sports and education share the power to transform lives. His counseling philosophy is simple: challenge students, support them, and help them discover what they are capable of achieving, both during their time in college and long after graduation.
