The Corsairs' men's and women's cross country teams turned in strong performances at the Western State Conference Championships at Moorpark this past weekend. Santa Monica's men qualified for the Southern California Championships by finishing eighth as a team overall, while the women did not advance as a team but recorded notable individual finishes.
On the women's side, Elizabeth Servin delivered a standout run, placing 4th overall in 19:45.40 to headline Santa Monica's day. Victoria Tapia crossed in 21:41.50 for 24th, Natalie Chavez ran 23:54.10 for 43rd, and Valeria Castillo finished in 35:36.00 for 67th.
For the men, Alberto Bravo paced the Corsairs with a superb 6th-place finish in 21:00.00. Jairo Zamora added 29th in 22:07.30, with Jared Garcia 40th in 22:50.80. Adam Cherkaoui Jaouad scored in 62nd at 26:23.20, and Wenbo Zhao closed the scoring in 69th at 28:04.50. The men had additional finishers, including Jonathan Diaz (28:46.90) Jinho Hong (29:48.60), Jayden Frazier (40:07.20), and Javier Lopez (41:02.81).
Santa Monica totaled 206 team points to finish eighth overall out of twelve teams, and punch its ticket to regionals.
The Corsairs now travel to the Southern California Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 7, at Naval Training Center Park in San Diego.
